Retrofication/Reconstruction of Damaged Schools

Since most of the schools were damaged after the earthquake, teachers were forced to continue teaching in the open sky. Students had to face the odds of weather and also found it difficult to concentrate as they were distracted by the continuous noise caused by people and vehicles. There were very few interim schools in the area.

Considering the problems of the students and teachers CEE Himalaya is constructing earthquake resistant schools in Uri Sub-division as ‘Anandshala’ Model schools. ‘Anandshala’ literally means ‘school of joy’ where the children to be provided with a congenial environment for their overall development.

The main objective of Anandshala is to create a model and methodology for education in partnership with village community, state government, local institution, individuals, teachers and children.  Anandshala also aims at improving the infrastructure of the existing school and further improve quality of teaching – learning process.

Some salient features of Anandshala are:

At school level:

  • Providing a children friendly school environment.

  • Provision of safe drinking Water and Sanitation facility.

  • Concepts of Personal Health & Hygiene are understood and practiced.
