Interventions

Since its inception in 2002, CEE Himalaya has initiated a series of programmes towards improving the quality of environment and the quality of human life. The programmes are spread across the Indian Himalayan Region from Kargil to Khonoma. Through out the region, from the harsh environment of the cold desert of Ladakh to the forest tribes of Arunachal Pradesh the textbooks and the school education has very little relevance to the immediate environment. We are trying to make education locally relevant. The Khonoma, a village in Nagaland, is being developed as a ‘green village’ promoting ecotourism for sustainable livelihoods. From children to women and elders, media and policy makers to NGOs and CBOs are catered by us. As our policy from awareness to action, we create awareness and promote sustainable livelihoods through popularizing appropriate technology and indigenous traditional knowledge. As crow flies, mountain areas are located in close proximity but because of physical and communication barriers people of one area know very little about the people next to them. Through ICT we try to bridge the gap and bring mountain people together. Organizing youth, enhancing capacity of local institutions and restoring peace are important components of our programmes.
